I recently upgraded from w vista to w 7. Now when I choose my desktop background, under appearance and personalization, it just stays black.

I'm afraid that you can't change the background if u r using Windows 7 Starter Edition. It's a limitation of the Starter Edition . Open this with Windows Explorer: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\ and tell me what you see? When choosing only one image for the desktop background there should be only TranscodedWallpaper.jpg and the slideshow.ini should be empty. Is there something inside the .ini file? Sorry, but that's not correct. Although Windows 7 Starter Edition comes with no way to change the background, there are workarounds.
